This Sunday at TD Stadium the London Runner Distance Club, along with local officials and volunteers, will host the 13th annual London 10,000m, which includes the Athletics Ontario and Ontario Masters Association 10,000m Championships. Parking and admission are free for this meet. Windsor Timing will provide live results; Matt Goodale photography is the official meet photographer. The meet will start at 7:10pm with open 800m races, followed by open 1,500m races.
The women's 10,000m field features Canadian Junior 5,000m record holder Branna MacDougall, 2017 Canadian Marathon champion Leslie Sexton, and 2017 Canadian Cross Country champion Claire Sumner. Rounding out the field are Molly Steer, the top returning athlete from the 2017 London 10,000m, and Tanis Bolton, 2nd place finisher at the Mississauga 10k last weekend. The meet record of 33:10.47, set by Megan Brown in 2011, will most likely be under threat.
The men's 10,000m Ontario championship will be a hotly contested affair between a trio of Harbour Track teammates - Blair Morgan, Sergio Ráez Villanueva, and Paul Rochus, and local Kevin Blackney, the 2017 silver medalist. They will be joined by other championship and open competitors amidst a field of 13 Senior men, followed by a section of Masters men contending the Ontario Masters Association championships.
This is the first meet in the 2018 Runners' Choice London Distance Series. The series continues with Trackie Mania on June 3rd, followed by 1,500m Night on June 16th, before closing with the Forest City 5,000m on July 16th.
